Education

Educational opportunities for all ages and levels is available in and within close proximity to Allegan County. Sixteen K-12 public school districts have a substantial presence within the County which are, in turn, served by four Intermediate School Districts. A variety of private, parochial and religious school options also exist in or near Allegan County as well. With the County situated in the midst of several larger urban areas, higher education options are many and varied. Intermediate School Districts (ISDs)

ISDs are government agencies organized at the county or multi-county level assisting local school districts in providing programs and services. Additionally, they collect data for the state Department of Education. An ISD has a Board of Education chosen by a group of electors with one member from each local school district's Board of Education.
